1. The Great Depression constituted the greatest test of capitalism in American history. At the same time, it also tested long-standing political traditions. Drawing on, and critiquing the readings from the class, write an essay examining the degree to which New Deal constituted a break from the past and describing the nature of that break. Should the New Deal be considered a re-founding of the American state, or does it represent a logical evolution from the Progressive Era?
